Beard Jams: Black Out Days by Phantogram

Hey everyone! I’m back with some new music from Phantogram! It’s entitled “Black Out Days.”

This is absolutely fantastic. It feels so good to hear some new music from Phantogram. One of my favorite parts of this song are the recorded vocal harmonies of the lead singer. It sounds so amazing.

Phantogram are from Upstate New York, as am I! I always feel inclined to share “Local” music (Even though we are from different regions of Upstate New York.) I saw them live last year, and they were awesome. Great live show.

Even if I was not from Upstate New York, I would share Phantogram all day, every day. Their music is always so unique and beautiful. If you have never checked them out, please check them out. Pronto. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Making it Up by Allison Weiss

Hey everyone! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. for a while. I’m drowning in work here at school. Fitting I suppose since it is my senior year.

Anyways, check this out. “Making it Up” by Allison Weiss. I’ve been listening to her latest album, and it’s awesome. This is one of my favorite tracks off the album.

A very cute video as well. Enjoy!

Beard Jams: Jump Into Life by Eclectic Approach

Hey everyone! How has it been? I know, long time no see. My life for the past two weeks has consisted of homework, internships, and hanging out with my best friend every chance that I get. Even though I love what I’ve been doing these last few weeks, it makes me unable to post for a while.

However, awesome people who are reading this are more than welcome to suggest music for us. Trust me, it’s very much appreciated when I’m super busy like this.

Todays post was actually suggested to me from one of our followers on Tumblr! Their blog is called eternally-eclectic. Go check it out and follow it. Their musical suggestion was a song called “Jump Into Life” by Eclectic Approach.

This is a really cool song, with lots of sounds going on. Sounds blend together very well to make a very happy, and upbeat pop anthem about living in the moment and enjoying that moment. I had a friend tell me once when I was stressed out at school to “Embrace the craziness.” It’s very true right now for me.

Check this one out! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: My Friends Never Die by ODESZA

What’s going on everyone?! Yes, I’m still alive and well. School has started, and unfortunately that means less time for the blog. However, I’m here today with a sweet track! It’s called “My Friends Never Die.” It’s by ODESZA

I really like the combination between the hip hop beats, and an electronic song. It’s a nice combination with some beautiful sounds. There is a nice bubbly, and airy synth going on. Theres also a pretty cool razor sharp synth going on as well. Add this with a smooth piano sound, and it’s a treat for your ears.

This track made me dance and listen for the whole song. It has a great beat, and great sounds.

It reminds me of walking through my school’s campus being it’s my senior year. The track reminds me of that confidence one gets while being the upperclassmen. Great track. Check it out, and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Getting To Know You by Spazzkid

Hey everyone! It’s been a busy time for me these last few days. I finally return to school tomorrow! That being said, I’ve been swamped with trying to pack. So this post is going to be short and sweet.

This song is called “Getting To Know You.”, and it’s by an artist known as Spazzkid.

Great sounds happening in this track. In the intro there are some great 8 bit synth sounds going on. It has a great beat as well. Just enough to groove to it, but it has a certain something that can be relaxing as well.

With this track, I picture riding a bike with balloons flying through the air, in the autumn. It has that feeling of a crisp, and nostalgia like time to me.

Overall this is a great track. I’ve been obsessed with his album ever since I discovered it! Definitely one of the best albums I have heard from this year so far. Give this one a listen, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Nothing Here But Love (Twice as Nice Remix) by Lenka

Hey everyone! School is quickly approaching for myself. I leave Saturday. I might also be taking my younger sister to college tomorrow as well. Anyways, posts are not going to be daily because of school.

Todays song is entitled “Nothing Here But Love (Twice as Nice Remix) by Lenka.

I really admire this remix. It keeps it very true to the original song, but adds its own flavor that fits well with the song. You know how sometimes you listen to a remix of a song, and it sounds completely different? Well, not so much in this case. it is different than the original, but its different in a good way. A way that sounds like it’s just adding more awesome sauce onto the original.

The chorus is awesome. This is where the bulk of the remix really shines through. It’s very refreshing listening to the chorus. I feel like I’m listening to this song at a concert in an ice cave, while it’s snowing. I really enjoyed the chorus.

Overall, I thought this was a very nice track. With the remix, it reminds me of Data Romance, but more happy. This remix keeps the integrity of the original song, but adds on new parts in a way that is almost perfect. Verses have just enough of electronic influence, and the chorus gets amplified from the original. This is a great remix, and a great track. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: King and Cross by Ásgeir

What’s going on everyone? I’m back tonight with another song. I figured I should be posting as much as I can before school starts. This song that I have for you all is called “King and Cross.” It’s by an artist known as Ásgeir.

The intro was really nice. Very peaceful with just the acoustic guitar and the voice. However, the song gets really cool when the beat comes in. It’s a nice hybrid sound between electronic elements, and the acoustic guitar.

In the chorus, there is also a sick harmony part. I really enjoyed the vocal parts paired with the rest of the song. The singers voice has a nice, yet intriguing falsetto sound.

Overall, I thought this was a nice track! Very nice sounding track. In addition, Ásgeir is from Iceland! That’s pretty sweet! I can’t recall too many artists I’m familiar with that are from Iceland. Check this one out! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Moondust by Jaymes Young

How’s it going everyone! I’m getting ready to go back to school. However, I always have time for a music break instead of packing. Todays song is called “Moondust.” It’s by an artist known as Jaymes Young.

I really like the vocals for this track. The singers voice has a smooth, yet intriguing voice. Kind of has a story telling quality to it, but it also seems sad to me. His voice just really interests me. When he goes into a little bit of falsetto, it sounds very nice.

The beat is nice. The intro is pretty ambient sounding. I feel like I’m in a pool of smoke in the beginning. Then when the chorus comes along, the smoke clears. Speaking of the chorus, it’s awesome. Very powerful. Even though not a lot is added to it from the verses, it still has a powerful effect.

Overall, I really enjoyed this track. Very chill and relaxed. Glimpses of powerful moments really make this song shine. The singer has some killer chops as well, which definitely helps add to this song. Check this one out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Power Move (Original Mix) by Jackal

Hey everyone! How’s it going? Today, we have got a pretty sick hip hop track entitled “Power Track.” It’s by an artist known as Jackal.

The intro is fantastic. That beat that starts things off is so good. It’s a nice beat to just groove to! Once the vocals come in, it becomes an awesome hip hop track.

I love this guys voice in the song. There is something in his voice that just really makes it great to just listen to him. One of my favorite lyrics from this song is “Catch me if you can, like the gingerbread man.”

I also enjoyed right before it goes into the chorus. “Sittin’ back counting double digit stack.” As soon as he saids that, the song just goes crazy. Then after that comes my favorite line of the song, as I already mentioned above.

There are electronic sounds in this song as well. More specifically, the almost dolphin noise like sounds. At first, I was not really feeling those sounds in the song. I actually jumped when I heard them because I was not expecting to hear anything like that. However, as I listened to the song more, I started to enjoy the electronic/dolphin noises. (Now go back and see if you think they sound like dolphin noises as well)

Overall, this is a sweet track. My favorite parts of the song were where the vocals were just straight up, and not altered. This track has a sweet hip hop beat. If you like hip hop in your life, check this one out. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: The Spins by Potty Mouth

Hey everyone! How’s it going? I have some news for everyone real quick. I return to school for my last year this upcoming weekend. (AHHH!) In lieu of that, posts are going to become less frequent then they have been this summer. (Basically, I just might not have a post everyday. I’ll try though!)

Sweet! Now lets get down to business! Todays song is entitled “The Spins.” It’s by a band known as Potty Mouth!

The intro is pretty sweet. Great guitar riff that opens it up, and continues throughout the song. Then, a beautiful wall of punk sound comes along.

The chorus is awesome. If your not moving along in the chorus, you might need to check your pulse.

The singer has a great voice as well. It really shines through in the chorus. There’s something about a female singer in a punk band that is just awesome.

Additionally, not only is there a female singer, but the whole band consists of females! How fucking awesome is that?!?! These ladies are definitely some punk babes.

Overall, this is a sweet track. A great track to just rock out to. If you need some straight up punk music to listen to, check this track out. Don’t forget to check out the rest of their songs as well! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Shout out to my friend URRLLL who tipped me off about this track! Thanks!

Beard Jams: Walkin’ by Amtrac

What’s going on everyone?! Today, we have a really cool song for you all. It’s called “Walkin’ “, and it’s by Amtrac.

At first, I was a little weary of this track. When the vocals came in with the soft synth in the intro, I was sitting there saying “Okay, this is alright. But what’s next?” Alas, that question of what was happening next came along.

A seriously awesome beat came along at this point. Pairing this beat with the vocals sounded amazing. I instantly started dancing, and in the style of my friend Sean. (Btw, Sean’s dancing is the best thing ever.)

In addition to some great electronic noises that happen during this song, there is another soft part to the song. Not as soft as the intro, but still soft enough to give us a little break. Then these robotic sounds come along, and once again a sound I was weary on is paired with an awesome beat, and sounds amazing.

Overall, this track is fantastic. There were parts were I was really grooving to it, and there were moments were I was pleasantly surprised. This was a fantastic find. Play this one all day, no matter where you are. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Dangerous by Big Data

Hey everyone! How are you all today? I’m feeling better today, but still not 100% from my illness. I guess there is a bug going around in my area, and it looks like I caught it. I woke up feeling good, and ready to take on the world…but then I tried doing stuff other than resting and I was like, nope. Not yet.

Anyways, todays song is from a group called Big Data with their song entitled “Dangerous.”

First of all, if the vocals seem familiar to you, it might be because this vocalist also does the vocals for the group known as Joywave! (Who we featured on here a while back.)

I think he does a fantastic job with vocals on this track. The verses sound pretty badass. I just imagine him in a leather jacket walking down a street. During the chorus, it gets pretty intense. A lot of his passion is shown in the chorus.

The music is great as well. The opening bass line is killer. I just want to dance to it all day. There are some great synth and keyboard sounds as well. A major theme of the song is the bass line however, which I think is really cool. Bass guitar does not get enough love in my opinion.

Overall, I really enjoyed this track. Some really nice sounds blending together to make an awesome song. Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: High With Me by Yahtzel

Hey everyone! So remember yesterday when I said I was not feeling good, and was hoping it was just allergies? Well, I was wrong. I really am sick. If you know me, you know I absolutely hate being sick because I hate having to just sit and do nothing. Anyways, I’m trying to combat my sickness with some cool music. Todays post is a track entitled “High With Me.” It’s by an artist called Yahtzel

There are some really nice sounds going on in this track. This is definitely one you just kind of have to chill out to, It’s great for me today since I’m sick. It’s calm enough to be relaxing, but has enough going on in it that I can groove to it as well. (As much as I can being sick.

The intro has some really nice piano sounds in the beginning. It quickly escalates into an awesome blossom of sound. There is a fantastic beat, and there are lots of interesting sounds thrown in that act as accents.

The altered voices are interesting. At first I was not a huge fan of them, but the more I listen to this track the more I am growing to enjoy them.

Overall, this was a sweet track. Give this one a listen, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Lost Track Of Time by MTNS

What’s going on everyone?! I woke up feeling terrible today. I don’t know if it’s allergies, or a freak cold. I’m hoping it’s just allergies. Anyways, I’ve got a chill track for us all today. It’s called “Lost Track Of Time” by MTNS

I’m really digging the vibe on this song. I really wish I discovered this song when I was melting in my green tea with peppermint. My green tea and this song would have been perfect. Without green tea, this song is still awesome.

The singer fits really well with this track. Reminds me a little bit of Lorde, (And she has been all the rage lately.) Very smooth, and soothing.

This track definitely feels like I could be up on a mountain right before the sun sets. That hauntingly beautiful moment that would be. Up on a mountain as it’s about to drop in temperature. (Apparently I just want to come up with situations of what this song makes me think of today.)

Overall, this is a sweet track. Very soothing and hauntingly beautiful. It’s a perfect track for me today. I’m going to try and feel better. While I’m doing that, check out this lovely song. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Keep Calm by Sway

Hey everyone! How was your day? Mine was very busy. Getting ready for school can be just as stressful and anxiety filled as it is while I’m at school. You would think I would be used to it by now, but I still get a little anxiety when I think about it. Anyways, todays song is called “Keep Calm.” It’s by a band known as Sway.

One thing I really like about this track is the group vocals. There are a few times this pops up in this track. I think it’s nice in this song. Gets the audience involved, especially if it’s at a live show. It also gives it a nice vibe as well.

The music is pretty sweet too. Verses are a lot more relaxed than in other parts. The intro and bridges are a little more involved. In fact, when I first heard this track, I thought it was going to explode after the intro. It didn’t, but I like the track just as it is as well.

There are lots of interesting things going on in this song. Bass lines are pretty sweet, and the drummer has some cool stuff going on as well every once in a while. The guitar riffs are nice as well.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty sweet track. If you like Indie/College Rock, check this one out. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It! by Kishi Bashi

Welcome back everyone! Hopefully we all had a good weekend. We start off this week with a track entitled “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize In It!” by Kishi Bashi.

Kishi Bashi is one of those artists who I have heard about and never got around to listening to him. (There’s only so much music I have time for in a day!) Based on this track alone, I’ve definitely been missing out. This track is brilliant.

The intro is lovely. I love how peaceful and dreamy it is. I could listen to the beginning seconds of the song over and over again it’s that good.

Verses are nice as well. Kishi Bashi has an awesome voice. Another voice I want to keep on listening to for hours on end. The song itself is very nice and has it’s light and dark moments. Mostly light filled, fun music time though. The acoustic guitar during the verses sounds great.

Overall, this track is fantastic. Take some time out of your day to check this one out. While you are listening to this track, I’m definitely going to check out his other work. I think I’ve definitely been missing out on this artist. Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: MJ by Marsicans

Hello everyone! How is your weekend treating you so far? Today we have a song entitled “MJ.” It’s by a band named Marsicans!

I’ve been on an indie rock/ indie pop vibe lately. It just makes me happy when I hear this style of music. This song is no exception for making me happy. The beginning is nothing but fun and feelings of summertime.

One section I really enjoyed was the section with all of the “Oh’s”. The singer does them very well. Light, relaxing, and just fun.

Another section I liked was the ending. Things just go crazy, but it’s enjoyable at the same time. It’s a nice change in the song because prior to this, everything is a lot lighter. It’s a nice indie rock sound at the end.

Overall, I thought this was a fun track. Enjoyable to listen to, and it has a little something for everyone. Great vocals, a nice contrast between increased and decreased tempos, and lots of fun. Be sure to check this one out. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Come A Little Closer by Cage The Elephant.

Happy Friday everyone! Today, we have got a new song from Cage The Elephant for you all! It’s called “Come A Little Closer.”

The intro is pretty sweet. Has a really nice bass line to it. Vocals come in, and it gives you that same joy you have if you have ever listened to Cage The Elephant. (If this is your first Cage The Elephant song, well I hope it brings you some joy.)

One thing I notice, is that this song is a little more relaxed than his previous work. To be honest, I like that it’s a little more laid back. The chorus is really nice. Since the vocals have a distortion on them during the verses, even though it’s still laid back a bit in the chorus, it has more effect in the chorus when it has clean vocals.

Overall, this is a solid release from Cage The Elephant. It is a nice laid back song to rock out with. You can groove to the bass lines in the verses, and really jam out to the song during the chorus. It definitely has me excited for his next album release. Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Green Eyes (Radio Edit) by Tidy Street

Hey everyone! I got to admit, this might be one of the cutest, feel good songs we have had in a while. It’s called “Green Eyes”, and it’s by Tidy Street.

Right away, when the female vocalist sings the “Do, do, do’s”, they are very catchy. They happen throughout the whole song, they are very cute, and fit so well. Both vocalists have great tones to their voices. The male singer has a nice story telling tone, while the female singer has a tone that is light, airy, and cute.

The chorus is also pretty sweet. I like the dynamic between the male and female vocalist. There are some really sweet guitar tones going on as well.

Speaking of guitar parts, I really enjoyed the guitars. The acoustic guitar is nice, and the electric guitar has a nice clean, yet harsh tone to it. It’s very pleasing to my ear, so I dig it.

Overall, I thought this song was very cute. It’s a nice indie pop jam, and it feels good to be listening to it in the summer time. If you need some cute indie pop in your life, check this one out. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!
