Beard Jams: Magic by DCUP

Hello everyone! Hopefully everyone had an awesome weekend! I got to hang out with my family and bake with them. I always enjoy baking with my family, drinking, and telling stories. The holiday season is a good time in my house. You know what else is a good time? This song I’m about to share! It’s entitled “Magic”, and it’s by an artist known as DCUP.

This track has a nice build up. I really love the bass sound in the beginning. Very funky, and 100 percent awesome. When the piano comes in, it’s a nice touch to the track. The song gets even better as it goes on. The first time after the vocalist saids “Magic”, is really cool because you get to hear how everything combined sounds together. It’s a really nice blend of sounds.

Overall, I really liked this track. There is a really nice party/ celebratory feel to this song in my opinion. It has a great groove that I believe lots of people can move to. It had me dancing all the way through the song. I really enjoy when a song can make me do that. Anyways, check out this song, share with everyone you know, and give the free gift of Musicbeards to all of your loved ones. Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Salt by Bad Suns

Here’s another cool song that came out a few days ago! It’s entitled “Salt”, and it’s by a band named Bad Suns!

This track is really nice. Has a great groove and beat throughout the entire song. The bass in this song is awesome. Fits the song in every way possible. Guitar has a nice tone in this song as well and once again fits with the song very well. Vocals are really nice in this song as well! Vocals capture you during the verses, and then they give you even more during the choruses.

Speaking of the chorus section, the chorus is definitely one of my favorite parts of the song. I really like how all of the parts sound together. All parts feed off of each other very well. I also admired the sections where the vocals come in with “These memories are nothing to me, just salt”. I like how there is a short break, and the band gets right back into the song. Helps break up the song, and also helps the listener get into the chorus section each time.

Overall this is a nice little song! It made me dance in my seat while writing this, which is always a good thing. I’m a little upset to discover that Bad Suns played at the CMJ Music Marathon this year. Not because they played at the CMJ festival, but because I was at this years CMJ Music Marathon and I totally missed this band. However, I’m glad I found about them when I did. Keep an eye on this band. I feel like there is going to be good things coming from this band in the future. Especially on January 21st, 2014 when they are set to release their “Transpose EP”. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Tops by Lincoln Jesser

What’s going on everyone! I’m done with finals and am ready to share more awesome music I find. Let’s get started with this sweet track entitled “Tops”. It’s by an artist known as Lincoln Jesser.

I love the lyrics to this song. There is something to be found for everyone within these lyrics. It’s nice to hear great lyrics in a electronic song. This track is not overly lyrical as well. It’s a nice blend of lyrics with music, and just musical parts and interludes as well.

Let’s not forget about the actual music of this track as well! The beats are seriously awesome! This track had me dancing and thinking the whole time. I also loved the funky bass warp sounds. I really liked them after the first drop in the song, but I liked them even more when it was complemented by every other aspect of the song. There are some really nice synth sounds as well.

Another cool section is where it’s just organ/synth and vocals. It’s a really fresh part of the track, and then we get right back into the awesome dance and electronic aspect to this song.

Overall, I really enjoyed this song. One of the best dance/electronic songs I have heard in a while. Seriously, I don’t know why you are still reading this (It’s because you love Musicbeards. That’s why.) Get up and start dancing! If you really don’t want to dance, then sit back and enjoy this one. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Happy By Robert DeLong (Live on Triple J)

Hey everyone! I’m right in the middle of finals week. Well, not middle sense I’m almost done. Two finals done, One more to go tomorrow! Anyways, this song I have for you all is entitled “Happy“. It’s by an artist known as Robert DeLong. This version of the song was live at Triple J.

I really liked the song when it first came out on his album “Just Movement“. I still really enjoy the album and this song. (Also, this album came out in early 2013…and I have yet to see it on any countdown lists. This makes me sad. It also makes me realize I still need to put together my list.)

I’ve never seen Robert DeLong live, (I REALLY WANT TO THOUGH), so seeing what he might do at a show in this video was really nice. I enjoyed all of the modified equipment such as the game controllers. Yes, there was more then just the Wii controller.

I really enjoyed this video, and am continuing to enjoy this song. Check it out, and listen to Robert DeLong’s album “Just Movement“! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Dead Signal by Tauk

I’m back with another post for today! Lately I’ve been doing one post every so often because I’ve been busy with school. First of all, thank you all for your patience as I worked through this semester. It’s my last day of classes, so I figured I would get some posts in before finals start up.

Starting late next week, expect more posts and as always, more music!

Anyways, todays post comes to me from a awesome lead who tipped me off about these guys. It’s a band called Tauk, and this is their song which is entitled “Dead Signal”.

I’m really enjoying this song. There are so many beautiful detailed moments in this song. At times, it gets very technical. However, even with this technicality, they are able to maintain an awesome groove and a fantastic overall sound.

Seriously, this is one of the best tracks I’ve heard this year to just sit back and groove along to. This track will get you to move your head back and forth. All the parts blend together very well, (Including that killer bass!). Overall, I just can’t tell you how much I enjoy this song.

Definitely check this one out if you like some groove filled alternative rock. I’ve also seen it described as rock fusion. I like that definition so that’s what we will go with. Be sure to share this song, and be sure to share this blog with everyone. Musicbeards ftw. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: SWTRWTHR by Alex Young

Hello everyone! It’s my last day of classes here at school today! Which means I have to party tonight, right? RIGHT. Anyways, while you are out and about, be sure to check this sweet remix of The Neighbourhood’s song “Sweater Weather”. This version is spelled out as “SWTRWTHR” and it’s done by Alex Young!

I’ve been really enjoying this remix ever since it started. Something about it just feels so fresh to me. Great beats and an overall great job adding new ideas while keeping the initial integrity of the original track.

Be sure to check this one out, and share with everyone you know! It’s the holiday season, give your friends new music to listen to! They will love you for it. Also share Musicbeards so they can listen to awesome music in one spectacular location. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Wait For Me by Allison Weiss

Hey everyone! I’m currently home for Thanksgiving! I can’t wait to have all of the good food Thanksgiving brings. One thing I can wait for is all of the allergies I get once I go home, thanks to my lovely dogs. It’s a loving sacrifice I have to make for my dogs. Additionally, I get to see my family and my little sister comes home from school today! (As I’m writing this, I should see her in about 4 hours.) I have not seen my family since the end of August so that’s pretty cool.

Anyways, I wanted to share another excellent song from Allison Weiss. This one’s called “Wait For Me”. It’s a cool little take on the whole music video idea. I really enjoyed the video and the song. It’s a nice song to not only soothe my sinus headache from the allergies, but also relax to. It’s also very applicable to a lot of people these days. (Especially the female in this video.) Check this one out. Keep on being awesome Allison Weiss!

Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Better Now by Jesse Denaro

What’s going on everyone? Todays song is entitled “Better Now”, and it’s by an artist named Jesse Denaro.

This song is pure acoustic awesomeness mixed with fantastic emotion. Even though it has a sad tone to it at times, it’s still a very enjoyable song to listen to.

Additionally, Jesse Denaro came up to the radio station I work at to do a live session, and he was awesome. For the live session, he brought two other members so he could have the semi full band sound, and it was fantastic.

Definitely check this one out if you need some good acoustic music in your life. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Mean Streets by Tennis

Here’s a song from Tennis I’m currently enjoying. I’ll just be posting songs without much commentary until the middle of December. Once the semester is over (Finishing up my second to last semester of college!), expect more music and commentary. Until then, enjoy this track and have fun and stay safe.

Beard Jams: The World by Cloud Caverns

What’s going on everyone? I’ve still got many posts about CMJ to come up on this blog! The time has not been in my favor though as I’ve been running around getting all of my missed work done because I had school still during the CMJ Music Marathon. Totally worth it, but I still had to get everything done. However, I have a moment to breathe! While I breathe, let’s check out another cool song! This one is called “The World”, and it’s by a band known as Cloud Caverns.

This song has a light hearted, easiness to it. I’m not saying it’s easy to play, rather that it has a nice sound to it that I believe a lot of people can groove to. The vocals are spectacular. The singers voice has a great storytelling quality to it, and it captures your attention throughout the whole song. The guitar parts are great as well. I love the the lead guitar riff with the rhythm guitar. Additionally, who can forget about the bass? Certainly not me. Great bass line that first gets introduced in the beginning of the song.

Overall, this is a fantastic track. I really enjoyed the peacefulness to this track. It made me think of that feeling you get when you are relaxing on a cool, cloudy, autumn day. If you don’t get that lazy Sunday feeling on cool, cloudy, autumn days then maybe that’s just me. Even if you don’t get that same feeling, maybe this song still makes you groove and dance around. I know I really enjoyed this song. Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Pictures by Stone Cold Fox

Hey everyone! I saw these guys the first night I was at the CMJ Music Marathon this year. The studio at Webster hall. Oddly enough, that’s where I started my first ever CMJ Music Marathon experience. Weird. I also ended up losing my drivers this year on my first night of this years CMJ Music Marathon. Luckily, I found it that night a few hours later. Anyways, even though that night was kind of crazy, it was still magical and worth it. You know what else is magical and worth it? Todays song. “Pictures” by Stone Cold Fox.

One of my favorite parts in this song are the oh sections. I love when there are some good oh’s in a song. These oh’s not only continue throughout the whole song, but kind of get the song really going as well. The guitar is light, but fits right in with this song. Everything forms together very nicely. Voices and instruments included.

I really enjoyed seeing this band live. They had a nice stage presence, and seemed like they were having fun! (Especially the bass player…don’t worry. I was having just as much fun in the audience as you were on stage.) If you get the chance, see these guys live. It was a great show to start off my CMJ Music Marathon week. Be sure to check them out at these fine social media outlets!

Beard Jams: Told You So by Cub Sport

Hey everyone! Let me start off by saying that I had an amazing time at the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC. Met a lot of cool people, made some new friends, and made more memories with my best friend. I also got to see some fantastic bands on the trip as well! One of those bands I watched was a band called Cub Sport! One of the songs they performed was entitled “Told You So.”

This song is pretty awesome. The intro has a nice groove to it. The bass line is catchy. Everything blends together very well. The 8-bit keyboard sounds amazing paired with the indie sound this band conveys.

The vocalist was very good. He also plays some of the keyboard parts as well. Vocally, he was very sharp and on top of his game.  He had a great stage presence that fit with their music nicely.

Speaking of stage presence, the whole band had a nice presence on stage. The bass player was very cute and provided some killer backup vocals on some of the tracks. The other keyboard player and guitar player looked like they were having lots of fun, which is always a good thing to see. (Sorry drummer, I could not see you that well at the show.)

Overall, I really enjoyed watching Cub Sport, and I enjoyed this track! I think they were one of my favorite bands to watch at this years CMJ Music Marathon. Great band, great music, and great times. Check them out, and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Black Ocean E.P. by Highly Suspect

What’s going on everyone? With the upcoming 2013 CMJ Music Marathon coming up, I was thinking of all of the bands I wanted to see, and bands that I already knew, etc. For some of these bands, I’ve known them for a while. It’s been really nice seeing them flourish over time and getting some awesome press coverage.

I’ve been noticing lots of “I’m excited to see this band at CMJ!”, and “Be sure to check out this artist at CMJ!” types of posts. Despite that, I’m very surprised that I have not seen or heard a lot of hype regarding this band that we have had many times here on Musicbeards. That band is Highly Suspect.

Recently, they put out an e.p entitled “Black Ocean E.P.”, and it’s amazing. Pure rock and roll going on here. Lyrics are always personable and passionate. Music is full of energy that goes 100 mph all the time, and never lets up. Each track has their own little moment, but as a collection they are very nice together as well. While I like all of the songs of the E.P., my favorite tracks have to be Lydia, Guess What, and Bath Salts.

In addition to their wonderful music, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them live before. If you like their recordings, you’re going to love their live show. You can’t help but move and dance around at their shows. They are also some of the coolest and caring people I have ever seen. While I have never met them face to face, I’ve seen them interact with others. Very respectful people.

While there are certainly more artists at CMJ I want to check out and have other people listen to, (There’s over 1,000 artists!), I’m a firm believer that the good people who will be attending the CMJ festival need to check out Highly Suspect. If high energy alternative rock with passionate lyrics sounds good to you, go see these guys at CMJ. You will not regret it.

Live Music Sundays: When Yesterday’s Gone (Live) by Hungry Kids Of Hungary

Beard Jams: Keep It Simple, Stupid by My Body Sings Electric

Hey everyone! It’s been ages since I’ve posted, but I’m back! (For a little bit.) My fall break started yesterday and it was a glorious start. 5 1/2 hour car ride, good friends, good music, and pizza flavored goldfish. As I’m writing this, I’m at my friends house for the weekend waiting to go to the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC! It’s going to be an excellent time. Right this moment though…I’m the first one awake out of my friends…so that means I’m doing some posting now, and throughout this week! Sometimes, it’s all about keeping it simple. (Music Track Pun!) Being with my best friend is the most simple thing that makes me happy.

Anyways, let’s get talking about this track! It’s a new song from My Body Sings Electric entitled “Keep It Simple, Stupid.” This is the first released track off of their new upcoming album!

I really enjoyed the quick intro. Really nice vibe with the drums and the guitar parts. The chorus is 100 percent awesome. It has a great sound, and it’s pretty clean. To explain myself, it does not feel cluttered in the chorus. Not only are the music parts clean, the recording sounds fresh as well. Plus they are singing about keeping it simple! Effective simplicity all around.

I really enjoyed this track. I’ve always liked this band since I first heard about them. From this track, it looks like I’ll still be liking them for quite some time. Excellent song, and an excellent band. Check them out! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Live Music Sundays: When I’m Small (Live on KEXP) by Phantogram

Happy Sunday everyone! I’m still drowning in school work, but that’s okay because it’s almost time for a fall break here at my school! My break gets extended however because I’ll be at the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC! (Insert Oh’s and Ah’s.) That being said, I’m looking to have a lot of posts during break and CMJ time. No promises though.

Anyways, check out this awesome performance from Phantogram! This is an older song of theirs, but they just released a new ep that is pretty fantastic!

Also, KEXP is pretty cool too. My heart lies with WAIH in Upstate NY, but KEXP is another cool college radio station.

Take it easy everyone!

Live Music Sunday: Grouplove at Redbull Soundspace at KROQ

So I know it’s Monday, but I was super busy this weekend. In fact, it actually just slipped my mind until this very moment! So today, I bring you a live set from Grouplove.

I was actually very lucky to see Grouplove last Friday. They were amazing live. Everything from their musicianship, all the way to their energy on stage, it was all fantastic. Hands down one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, and one of the best nights of my life so far.

Check out Grouplove, and go see a live show! They just came out with their newest album “Spreading Rumors” a little while ago. Enjoy!

Live Music Sundays: Live Sessions July, 3, 2011 by Incubus

Hey everyone! So I have an idea for a new segment here on Musicbeards. I’m calling it “Live Music Sundays.” Basically, every Sunday (Hopefully), I’ll bring you live footage from a band or artist.

I believe live music is very important. I’m a firm believer that your live show should be as good, if not better than your recordings. I also think it’s an important part of community. We all bond over music. Live shows just let us bond in person with each other.

That being said, for this week I’m bringing you a live session from the one and only, Incubus!

I love this video. (If you love this video, there is at least five more videos from different days in the same style.) I’ve always loved this band, and I admire the lead singers vocal range and ability. Amazing stuff. The rest of the band is always solid. I love when bands are very good live.

Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Restart by Little Daylight

Really brief post, because that seems to be my thing now. This song is awesome. Great feel to the song, and great vocals. Beautiful synths! This song rules, and so does this album.

They are also playing the CMJ Music Marathon this year! I might get to see them in concert! That would be awesome.

Check them out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.
