Beard Jams: Ways to Go by Grouplove

Hey all of you cool people. I’ve got a song for you today that is sure to make you dance, groove, and feel overall awesome just by listening to it. Its a new song from Grouplove entitled “Ways to Go”.

The beginning gives us that typical Grouplove intro. Very mellow from what we are about to experience, and the lead singer singing, but again, very chill compared to what we are about to witness.

Wow. The energy really amps up once we get to the “I’ve got a little bit longer, I’ve got a ways to go.” I really love the contrast between the lead singer doing the verses, and the female singer doing the chorus section.

Vocals are awesome as always from this group. I’ve always loved the lead singers voice. Especially the higher he goes with his voice. Female vocals are awesome. Great harmonies from her, and I love her section in the chorus. Simply amazing.

Music is good as well. It sounds a little bit different from what I have heard from them because there are no electric guitars in this song, at least I don’t hear any. Despite the subtle differences, this song is still great. The beat is wonderful, and the keyboard and synths are awesome.

Overall, I’m in love with this song, the female singer, and this video. Such a great concept for a music video. The video fits perfectly. Just such an awesome piece of work from Grouplove.

Don’t just take my word for it. Listen to it, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: High TImes Again by Chris Rossello

Hey everyone. I’m just here chilling, so i figured I would make another post. This song that i have for you all is called “High Times Again”, and it’s by an artist named Chris Rossello.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this song. There is something so peaceful to me when I hear a good folk song. It just makes me happy for some reason. The intro sets the mood for this song nicely.

I also really enjoyed the verses. More so than the chorus section. I really liked his voice during the verses. Fits very well with this style of music. It’s up front, and wanting to tell you something. A story if you will. I feel like this artists voice would make for a very interesting storytelling voice. In a way, thats what he is doing through his song. His voice just really interested me.

Overall, I enjoyed this song. It was a nice change of pace from what I have been listening too. Check it out if you need some acoustic indie folk in your life.

Don’t just take my word for it. Listen to it, and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Out Here In My Head by Radkey

What’s up everyone?! A special hello to all of the new followers in the last few days! Welcome. Today, we have a song entitled “Out Here In My Head”. It’s by a band named Radkey.

Right away, they get the song going. They waste no time in doing so. As soon as it started up, i started moving my head to the music. A great punk/indie rock song.

I’m really digging the singer. A great voice for this song. I enjoyed his woah’s, and his scream. A very nice scream for that style of music. I also like that he screamed only a few times. It acted as a nice accent to the rest of the music.

The band plays very well together. I never noticed any moments of being out of sync with each other, which is great because that can happen sometimes with this style of music. Very solid stuff happening in this song.

Also, the guitar solo was nice. Some times, you hear a guitar solo and you are like, oh man here is another guitar solo. However, in this song it fits very well. The song is already very active and upbeat. The solo really just puts that excitement over the top, in a good way.

In the video, they look like they are having some seriously fun times. Thats what it is all about. Rocking out, and having fun at the same time. I really enjoyed this song.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Nursery Rhymes by Bad Cardigan

Hey everyone! I’m back! You may be asking yourself, hey, you already posted for today?! What are you doing? Well, I have some time right now, so why not do some more posts? Without further adieu, here is “Nursery Rhymes” by Bad Cardigan!

I’m really digging the feel of the song. It’s very fitting for a quiet night and with rain falling outside. It’s a nice Indie Folk feel. The two guitar parts are nice as well. Simple, but very effective.

Another thing I’m liking are the lyrics. Straight from their bandcamp page, which you should check out, “I hope you know I miss you. And that I do and will continue to think of you. Yet my insides sometimes twinge when your name is mentioned.” Very beautiful stuff. We’ve all had those lost relationships, or deaths of loved ones that we can relate too.

Additionally, the lead singers voice is pretty nice as well. Very fitting for this style of music and song. You can definitely hear the emotion in his voice. I always love hearing singers that actually care about what they are singing.

Overall, this is a very nice Indie/ Acoustic Folk song. Everything combined; the guitars, the voices, the lyrics were all lovely when combined together. Check these guys out. Lots of good sounds coming from these guys.

Don’t just take my word for it. Listen to it, and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: The Ballad of Lunar and Stellar by Oyster

How’s it going everyone? Did you have a nice weekend? I know I did. Bonfire, drinks, nice weather. Nothing but good times. Anyways, I’m going to switch it up a little bit with this next song. It’s called “The Ballad of Lunar and Stellar”, and it’s by a band named Oyster.

I don’t know about you, but I’m immediately drawn into this song right from the beginning. So peaceful and intriguing. Reminded me of the lead singer from Incubus during the beginning. Falsetto was really nice, (When he sings the high notes).

Chorus was awesome. Harmonies were cool. Kind of reminded me of Fleet Foxes during this section. A very powerful, uplifting chorus.

Overall, I thought this song was really nice. Very fresh. Chorus sections along with the do do do’s were what kept this song together and capturing my attention. It’s a nice alternative, indie folk song. Definitely give this one a listen. Goes perfect with a cloudy day or if you are tired late at night.

Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Don’t Hold Back by Treasureseason

Hello friends! How’s it going? Today, I’ve got a track called “Don’t Hold Back”. It’s by a band named Treasureseason. Yes, it’s supposed to be one word.

Right in the beginning, I’m already grooving to it. The beat along with the lower synth sounds pretty cool. Then, when the higher synth comes in, it’s synth heaven. I personally love synth sounds.

The vocalist is alright. I like her on the verses. I enjoy the dream like atmosphere to her vocals. Kind of reminds me of Phantogram. However, I wish there was more emotion given to us in the chorus section. Song would be that much better with more emotion and feeling in the chorus section

Overall, I’m digging this track. I love how everything sounds combined together. Don’t just take my word for it though. See what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Teenage Coma by ECSTASY

What’s up everyone? I’m back, and in somewhat good health again. The culprit for my doctors visit? Turns out it’s a kidney stone. Awesome. You know what else is awesome? Todays song! It’s called “Teenage Coma” and it’s by a band named ECSTASY.

The song gets going pretty fast, giving us the beat and rhythm section almost immediately. However, even though they give us a lot in the beginning it still captures the attention. Well, at least it captures my attention.

One thing I really like in this track is the “oh ooh oh ooh oh ooh oh” section. I’ve always liked when bands and artists do this type of thing in songs. Vocals are pretty good. Chorus is pretty catchy. I also like the female back ground singer. At times makes the song seem like there is more than two singers singing.

This track feels different in a good way to me. I guess I was not expecting an indie rock song to pair up with all of the electronic elements that are present in this song. I do know that as different as it may be, i’m enjoying this track.

Don’t just take my word for it. See what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Stay Forever by Catching Flies

Hey everyone! I’ve been dealing with some medical problems in the last few days, so sorry about no post yesterday. Todays will be brief additionally.

Todays track is called Stay Forever, and it’s by Catching Flies. I’ve been a fan of Catching Flies ever since I heard their latest ep. Some of the most chill music I have ever come across. This music was great for when I was sleepy and during finals week.

This track carries that same feel of chill electronic music. The beat is slow, with nice passing piano notes and some echos that come and go. Another example of a cool female/male vocal contrast. Although, the female voice seems altered a little bit, so maybe it’s not really a female voice. Anyways, this music reminds me of a cold, cloudy day. Or a city around 2am.

Overall, I liked this track. I’ve been a fan of these guys for a while, and I’m continuing to be a fan. Check them out and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Trap of Time by Animal Flag

Hello once again! How is everyones Tuesday going? My day has been alright, especially with this new release from Animal Flag! The new song is called “Trap of Time.” Their new album comes out June 25th!

Right in the beginning, you can tell this track is going to be different from any material you have heard from Animal Flag in the past. Right away, we have a chill electronic, indie pop beat. As soon as you hear the singer though, sure enough this is Animal Flag.

The vocals are pretty awesome. He has such a lovely voice. It’s very intriguing, and just makes you want to listen to him even more. The lyrics are very interesting as well. Really makes you think.

Music wise, there is a bit going on. Lots of delay and echos. I even hear some synth in there! I’m really enjoying it. It’s nice in a sad, haunting kind of way.

I remember talking with the lead singer a few months ago after he performed at my schools radio station. Him and his manager were telling us a little about the album that was set for a release in June. They said it was going to be different than his past work. They even said it would have electronic elements in it. Well, they were not kidding.

Even though it’s a different sound for Animal Flag, I’m really enjoying it. I think this is a very good direction the band is going in. It’s different, yes. However, I think this difference is very nice, and done very well. Overall, a great sound and a great track.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Listen to it, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Jubel (Orignal Mix) by Klingande

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had a stellar weekend. Mine was pretty good when I was not bored and it was not raining outside. You what else is not boring? Todays track! It’s entitled “Jubel (Original Mix)”, and it’s by Klingande

One thing I am absolutely in love with is the saxophone in this song. It’s so nice to hear saxophone in a electronic/house song. It makes it very refreshing. Something we all look for in the summertime. Additionally, I’ve always loved the sound of saxophone. There’s just something about it that is very cool to me.

Other than the saxophone, this song has a nice electronic and house feel to it. In the beginning the drums are pretty cool. Definitely helps prepare us for the song, and what is about to come.

The little sections of female vocals are pretty nice. Again, I like how the vocals don’t overpower anything, and how it’s not present a lot. It feels like it has just the right amount.

Don’t get me wrong, I love vocals in music. However, sometimes I feel like instrumental music can be so much more imaginative. It can also allow the listener to envision what the song means to them, without lyrics telling you what you might feel.

Overall, I think this is a very nice song. Perfect for a nice summer night that is unwinding. Don’t just take my thoughts about it though. Check it out, and see what you think! Take care everyone!

Beard Jams: Move by Pacific Air

What’s up everyone? Happy Saturday! Who is doing something cool tonight? Well, before you head out, check out the latest song to hit Musicbeards. It’s called “Move”, and it’s by a band named Pacific Air!

I’m really loving the singers voice first of all. It’s got a certain quality to it that is very enticing. Uplifting, yet kind of sad. Works very well for this song. The harmony vocals are very nice as well. Another great instance of the Male/Female vocal combo working well together.

The drums that are present during the choruses are very cool. Definitely helps this song move along and keep going. Bass is nice in this song as well. I really enjoy the bass line in the verses.

When I hear this song, I picture this being performed on a beach, at dusk, right before a storm is about to hit. I imagine the chorus being absolutely crazy when they do the “ooohs”.

This group kind of reminds me of Grouplove. A little more safe, but still a nice sound to them that reminds me of Grouplove. Overall, I think this is a very nice track. I enjoyed it. It’s a nice jam for a Saturday afternoon.

Don’t just take my advice. Listen to it, and see what you think! Take care everyone!

Beard Jams: We Work Nights by Gold Panda

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! Who is doing something awesome tonight? Well before you head out, check out todays song. It’s entitled “We Work Nights”, and it’s by an artist known as Gold Panda.

There is quite a bit going on in this song. Intro sounds are very nice. Towards the middle there is a cool, funky sounding fiddle thing? (I don’t know what it is), but it works very well with the song. It’s instrumental, which is sometimes better in my opinion.

Once the beat comes along, thats when the dancing begins. Lots of ambient sounds going on as well that definitely make this song. Constant beat, with little bursts of surprises.

Overall, its a nice chill track that should make you groove a bit, if not a lot. Lots of sounds going on in this track, but they all work together very well. Reminds me of walking in a city at nighttime while it’s raining.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone!

Beard Jams: Bath is Black by Marika Hackman

Hey everyone! How’s it going? It is pretty hot here today. Sunny, but hot. While I’m trying to keep cool, check out todays song! It’s called “Bath is Black”, and it’s by Marika Hackman.

When I started listening to this song, I was thinking that this was going to be a nice and chill folk pop song. The first thing that pops out at you is her voice. Very sweet, yet mature.

Then, all of a sudden, after the first verse, here comes this beat! It totally caught me off guard, but I love it! It adds so much more to the song. As soon as I heard it I started dancing a little bit.

But wait, there’s more! After the second verse, the beat develops even more! At this point, I was full out dancing and enjoying this song. Has a very lovely sound to it. Very folky at the beginning and the end. In the middle of the song, it’s a nice indie pop sound.

The lyrics are pretty good as well. I enjoyed the line, “One day I’ll be free, and flies won’t follow me.” Very interesting line in which I can think of a lot of different things.

Definitely give this song a listen. No peer pressure or anything, but check this one out. Take care everyone!

Beard Jams: Ten Tigers by Bonobo

How’s it going everyone? I’m trying to keep things fresh since I’ve been home from school for a while now. I cleaned my house today. So exciting, I know. Anyways, something else that is fresh and cool is todays track. It’s entitled “Ten Tigers”, and it’s by an artist by the name of Bonobo.

Right away, this intro gets right to business. Some seriously awesome beats that are catchy and entertaining. As soon as I heard the bass, I knew I was going to like this song. The higher notes are very enticing as well. Combined, it makes for a nice trip hop, electronic type of vibe.

I picture walking through New York City on a fall day, or a cloudy spring day. I’m very excited because I get to walk in New York City this fall as a matter of fact because I’m attending the CMJ Music Marathon! Also, Bonobo is from NYC!

Anyways, back to the song. I really like it. It’s the little melody parts that keep this song going. If it was just the bass and beats, it would get stale very quick. However, this track is fresh, and is enjoyable for many listens.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Check it out, and see what you think! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Jams: Betwixt by OMN

What’s up everyone! Hopefully you all had a pretty awesome weekend. I know I did. Lots of good food, and a bonfire. Anyways, let’s get right to todays track. It’s called “Betwixt”, and it’s from a producer named OMN. This dude is only 18 years old, and he is making some pretty cool music. Awesome stuff.

In this track, it has a very chill and relaxed feel to it. I think of the intro section of this song like a sunrise. Before it comes up, it’s dark, usually cold, and there is a sudden peace in the air. Then as the sun comes up, it’s light spreads over all of the land. I think this song kind of develops like this.

With the dual female and male voices, I also think of these two voices waking up after a crazy night. Whatever happened, it’s not that great.

Musically, I love how there is not a constant vocal section. Sometimes the music does the talking instead of the vocals, and that is a wonderful thing. The beat is very nice, as well as all of the keyboards and synths.

Overall, this track is very nice. Very peaceful. See what you think, and check it out for yourself! Take care everyone.

Beard Beats: Aht Uh Yo Hed by Dave Hammer’s Power Supply

How’s it going everyone! For the next installment of Beard Beats, we will be looking at an album from Dave Hammer’s Power Supply entitled “Aht Uh Yo Hed”. First, let’s start with the individual tracks.

“It’s Not Worth It”: Dreamy intro. Decent lyrics. Great introduction to the album.

“Conartist”: Nice contrast between the jazz and indie rock sounds. Really liked the ending of the song.

“Aht Uh Yo Hed”: Great vocal part. Song is pretty chill, yet filled with so much soul.

“Robots”: Great intro. Great lyrics. Probably my favorite song of this album. Very simple, yet so effective.

“Exit 19a”: Has a that’s what she said joke in the intro. Awesome already. A little lo-fi, but feels very warm and inviting. Love the vocals.

I’ve been a big fan of Dave Hammer’s Power Supply ever since I heard their album entitled “Words”. I love how they have a nice blend of Jazz and Indie Rock. It’s a unique blend that personally I have not heard duplicated. Album is a great listen. I always like listening to Dave Hammer’s Power Supply in the evening. It’s one of those bands you want to listen to with some coffee and by a fire. Overall, these are some seriously talented musicians. Definitely deservers more people listening to their music. Absolutely love this album

Now to try and put a number on this album, I give it a 9.5/10. In a beard rating, it’s a nice trimmed beard matched with a nice, sharp suit. Definitely check this album out. Take care.

Beard Jams: Confidence by The Dodos

Hey everyone! What’s going on? I’ve been pretty busy doing different things today. However, I always have time to listen to music. Todays song is a new one from The Dodos. It’s called, “Confidence.”

The beginning is very nice. I’m really enjoying the guitar riff that is going on. The vocalist is also very intriguing in this song as well. Really enjoying it.

This song has a nice indie rock sound in the beginning. However, like someone gaining confidence, it starts to evolve as the track goes on. Song becomes more developed as it goes on.

The song is less relaxed towards the end, but still awesome. All of the sounds combined; the guitar riffs, the uptempo drum beats, and the singers voice just absolutely grabbed my attention. Some really nice sounds coming out from this track.

Don’t just take my word for it, see what you think of it! Until next time, have fun and stay safe everyone.

Beard Beats: “A is For Alpine” by Alpine

What’s up everyone? Today, I’m excited to bring you a new installment to the Musicbeards blog. It’s called: Beard Beats. Let me explain the difference real quick about Beard Jams versus Beard Beats.

Beard Jams are just tracks of songs I like. It only features 1 track at a time. Beard Beats will feature a whole album. In other terms, it’s an album review. Woohoo! It will feature both new and old albums.

Beard Beats will happen every once in a while. It will not be a constant thing like Beard Jams. That being said, let’s look at our first album! It’s entitled “A is for Alpine”, by Alpine!

First, I’ll take you through each track, and then give an overall impression. I promise, I’ll be brief on what each track means to me.

“Lovers 1”: Awesome build up. Great intro track to the album

“Lovers 2”: Getting pretty serious, but still playful. Just like lovers.

“Hands”: Love the chorus. First track of the album that really made me dance

“Villages”: A little bit different from the earlier tracks, but still awesome. Nice vocals going on.

“Softsides”: Great intro. Love the voices, love the percussion parts. Guitar is interesting in a good way.

“Seeing Red”: Love the opening lyrics. Another major danceable track. Nice varying styles in the  song.

“Gasoline”: One of my favorite songs on the album. Interesting comparison; Gasoline in your heart.

“All for One”: Very chill. Very interesting. Very nice.

“Too Safe”: Nice guitar part. It’s a very interesting moment when you think you’re falling out of love, when really you are just getting used to your lover. Cool idea for a song.

“In the Wild”: Bass and Cowbell. In the wild, that’s all you need… bad pun is bad. All puns aside, I enjoyed this track

“The Vigour”: Good things happening, but it feels like the album is winding down. Energy is kind of dwindling.

“Multiplication”: Final track is kind of an energetic sleepy. Fitting since it’s the last track.

Overall, I really enjoyed this album. Everything sounds so fresh and crisp to me in this album. I absolutely love the two female singers. Great voices, and they sound great paired together. Music is fun at times, with a strong emphasis on love. Love is cool, so that didn’t bother me. The more upbeat songs were my favorite, but I enjoyed all of the tracks. Some songs felt like they could have used a little more emotion in them. Felt a little stale after “In the Wild”. This album helped me get through finals week. It has a great sound to it. Very interesting stuff happening in this album. I’m definitely a fan of them now. I’m excited to see what the future holds for them. I’m really hoping I get to see them play in the U.S.A. I’m also hoping they play the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC this October.

I give this album a 8.5/10. However, number ratings by themselves are kind of boring. SO! Let’s compare the number rating to a beard. I would say an 8.5 is a nice, full, luscious lumberjack beard. A very nice beard indeed.

Check out this album, and see what you think! Take care everyone.

Beard Jams: Sky by MitiS & MaHi

What’s up everyone? It is absolutely freezing where I am today. I’m in an oversized hoodie, and jeans, and I’m still cold. I was just starting to get used to the summer weather too! Anyways, hopefully todays song will warm all of us up. It’s entitled “Sky”, and it’s a collaboration between MitiS and MaHi.

I’ve been a fan of MitiS for a while, but until a few days ago I never had heard of MaHi. Both artists have awesome music on their own, but this track that they have collaborated on is quite magical. I’m loving every moment of it.

I think the title of this song fits it perfectly. Sky. Especially in todays age, sky could have a variety of different looks and feels. When you look at the sky, that view can change based on where you are, and what weather patterns are happening as well. When I hear this song, I imagine a time lapse looking at clouds rolling over a lake or mountain.

Now to the music, I’m really digging the beat. The vibrato keyboard is also very cool. A big element in this song. It feels like an electronic song you might hear on an island. Sounds like a chill version of Pendulum.

I really enjoy the ending as well. The guitar gives a nice impression that something is changing, and coming to and end or a beginning, much like a normal sky does. (I’m making way too many connections to the sky and weather today).

Anyways, I think it’s a very cool track. Don’t just take my word for it though. Check it out, and see what you think about it! Take care everyone!
